Avoid Holiday Hazards

I recently read that in the two months around the Holiday season there are approximately 14,000 visits to emergency rooms due to injuries related to Holiday decorating. Christmas tree fires are the cause millions of dollars in property damage each year. Candle-related fires top the list of hazards & injuries.

Keep your loved ones safe this season. Here are a few tips that can help:

Prevent House Fires - To help prevent tree fires, make sure it has plenty of water, and keep it away from heat sources such as fireplaces or radiators.

Check all wiring and lights used as decorations to make sure they're in good working order.

The Holiday Spirits - Holiday parties usually include adult beverages. Many mixed drinks have pretty colors or fruity flavors that are very attractive to children. Children can become poisoned easily with very little alcohol so make sure drinks are not left unattended or that children don't have access to unfinished drinks. Mixing alcohol with prescription and over-the-counter medictions can slso be dangerous.

Holiday Food Hazards - Snacks such as peanuts or popcorn can pose a choking hazard for small children. To prevent poisoning make sure to wash your hands, utensils, dishes, and anything else that comes in contacct with raw meat, including poultry, fish, raw eggs before and after use. Make sure you store leftovers properly.

Seasons Greetings,

Jacqueline
