I recently took a trip to the Bay Area to help celebrate a landmark birthday for my friend, Arlene. I'm originally from the Bay Area and use to refer to my travels there as going home. Over the years that's changed because I now consider the Northwest my home. I really noticed this trip just how different everything is there for me. Of course I know people, places and things change, as they should. That being said, some changes are more challenging than others, which was my experience this trip. There was a lot of emotional release for me. I really had to let go of the Bay Area of my past and begin to embrace my new experiences. No matter how good the past was, its past! You can visit in memory from time to time (providing the memories are good ones) but, in my opinion, its not a good idea to live there. Living in past usually contributes to unhappiness. This trip let me know for sure, you really can't go back!
Bishop T.D. Jakes said that people are in your life for a season. It may be a short season or a long one. I like to say that people come into our lives on a mission. Our mission, should we choose to accept it, is not taking them past the mission they're on. Remember the past but live in the present!
Happy Holidays,
Jacqueline
