- Do you feel exhausted after being in the company of some people?
- Do some people you know drain you and suck your energy dry?
- Do you have acquaintances who are narcissists, controllers, criticizers & victims who always try to manipulate you into solving their problems?
- Do you literally feel like taking a nap or experience a drastic mood shift after being in some peoples company?
If you can answer yes to any of the above statements then you know or have been in the company of an "emotional vampire." One of the more destructive emotional vampires is the criticizer. Put downs, especially from authority figures---parents, teachers, and employers can create feelings of self-doubt or unworthiness.
Protect yourself from the vampires by recognizing the signs and trusting yourself & your feelings about them. Setting boundaries with what is acceptable to you is key. Please don't feel you have to apologize or make excuses and realize saying "no" is sufficient. You don't have to explain! There are some people you will have to interact with, for example, a coworker, employer or family member. For them it may take a little more courage but you can do it. The longer you endure the harder it is and the more resentful you become.
Remember, only you can make yourself a priority. Take the very best care of yourself from the inside to the skin-side.
Have a blessed day,
Jacqueline
