Buyer Beware

Many food labels list the allergens to help people avoid allergic reaction. The FDA requires food manufacturers to list eight most common ingredients that can trigger food allergies. According to the Mayo Clinic, the eight foods included in the food allergy labeling are:

  1. Milk
  2. Eggs
  3. Peanuts
  4. Tree nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts)
  5. Some Fish (bass, cod, flounder)
  6. Shellfish (crab, lobster, shrimp)
  7. Soy
  8. Wheat
The above eight foods account for an estimated 90 percent of allergic reactions.Yet another reason to read your food labels.

Together we thrive,
