Shift Happens is a book written by Robert Holden, PhD. I don't know anything about this man; I caught the tail-end of a his PBS presentation last week. I haven't read any of his books but I have read many so-called "self-improvement" books. In fact, I'd spent so much time searching for the answer, I finally said, "Enough Already." I think I'll just be happy with who I am and where I'm at in life. Imagine, if you will, being OK with who you are. The reality is, you might as well be since there's nobody else you can really be! The search for perfection can not only be confusing but exhausting as well. So, fast forward, I see Mr. Holden and here are a few things he said that confirmed what I'd already decided:
- No amount of self-improvement can make up for self-acceptance.
- Are you willing to accept that you're more than your self-image?
- Can you accept that there's nothing wrong with you?
- Practicing self-acceptance can lead to self-improvement.
- Can you accept that what is missing in your life is you?
