Mental Check-up ~ July 12th

Are you depressed? The rigors of life today can keep a person on the edge if they're not

careful. We become so accustomed to being stressed out, it becomes an accepted way of being.

Constant worry about finances, relationships, children, work, etc. takes its toll over a period of time. Since we live in a "keep it pushin" culture, many do not stop to check-in on themselves.

I've heard women say, "I don't have time to be depressed." You might want to take a moment to see if any of these symptoms apply to you:

According to Dr. Mehmet Oz, the two major signs of depression are:

  1. Loss of interest in activities normally enjoyed
  2. Overwhelming hopelessness or pessimism
Some other signs and symptoms include:
  1. Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty feelings"
  2. Decreased energy
  3. Feelings of worthlessness
  4. Irritability
  5. Over-eating or loss of appetite
  6. Suicidal thoughts or attempts
  7. Constant pains, headaches, or stomach problems that don't respond to treatment

Every individual may express different signs and symptoms with different frequency or severity, however having five or more of these symptoms could indicate depression.

Talk with your doctor or healthcare provider about depression. There are different degrees of depression so whatever you may be experiencing, don't feel you have to handle it alone. There are many things you can do to improve your emotional health. Starting with a conversation with your doctor or healthcare provider is the first step.

Self-care = Self-love.

Together we thrive,

Jacqueline
