Safe & Healthy Grilling ~ July 2nd

Ok, I'm not trying to rain on your holiday parade, however, I thought you might like to know some things about charcoal grilling since the 4th is right around the corner. Hopefully, this info will help you make informed choices. Barbecue grills can be problematic for a couple of reasons.

First, both charcoal and wood burn "dirty," producing hydrocarbons and tiny soot particles that pollute the air and can aggravate heart and lung problems. Secondly, the grilling of meat can form two types of potentially carcinogentic (cancer forming) compounds.

There are some alternatives: Noram de Mexico's Sierra Madre, 100 percent oak hardwood charcoal contains no coal, oil, limestone, starch, sawdust or petroleum products and is certified by the Rainforest Alliance. The product is available at select Sam's Clubs across the United States. Other all natural charcoal brands include Greenlink and Lazzari, both of which can be found at natural food stores across North America. Trader Joe's also carries 100% all natural hardwood briquettes---$7.99 for an 18 pound bag in my area.

Self-care = Self-love.

Together we thrive,

Jacqueline

  1. I too remember shopping for days for a new outfit to wear at the "Nights of Honor's" annual 4th of July picnic. Soon became young adults and went our separate ways. Still enjoying good food and drinks with family and friends. Plan on working in my yard this year. Just returned from 3 wk vacation in Texas and need big time rest. God bless you and happy 4th. Also congrats on your 13 mile walk. You go Diva. BJH
