As you know by now, I love to walk. Since I've been doing it for awhile now, I've been able to increase my distance and endurance. If you also walk for exercise, here are a few things you can do to step up your game:
- If you've been walking the same distance for some time, increase your distance.
- Take a detour from your regular route to include a hill or some stairs.
- Set a goal to walk your route faster over a certain period.
Walking with a group or another person will make it easier and more fun. Some of my walking buddies carry a pedometer which will tally your steps allowing you to measure your progress.
I like to walk outside but if that's not possible for you, doing it indoors is an option. One of my neighbors walks the length of the halls in her building. You can also walk at your local mall or at a gym.
If you use a cane or are on a walker, don't let that stop you. Just find paths that are even, well-lit, and well-traveled. Remember, move it or loss it!
