I recently watched a program on PBS (Channel 9 in my area) about brain health. Dr. Perlmutter, a neurosurgeon, had some extremely interesting things to say about the perils of gluten. I didn't realize that wheat is almost everything, making eating a gluten-free diet challenging, at least in my opinion.
I was particularly interested because, according to Dr. Perlmutter, gluten is a contributor to Dementia/Alzheimer's, ADHD, anxiety, chronic headaches & depression. Of course, there is probably someone else out there with evidence showing the complete opposite but, again, I found what he had to say worth going to his website to read more.
I thought I was pretty good about reading food labels which is fairly easy for me since I rarely eat anything from a can or box; I wasn't looking for wheat, however. I took a look in my cabinets and found that everying in a box---pancake mix, bread crumbs, and even my dry cereal all contained wheat.
My intention for 2014 is to integrate more of the information I've gathered. Hopeully you too will use some of the self-care and wellness informaiton on D.I.V.A. Downtime to help you on your journey towards a healthier life for you and your family.
I'm currently reading Heal Thyself for Health & Longevity by Queen Afua. It is a very comprehensive guide to creating a healty lifestyle. Check it out.
