Famous Mother's - Past & Present





PAST:
Sarah Breedlove, known as Madame C.J. Walker, was an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, and the first female self-made millionaire in America. She made her fortune by developing and marketing a successful line of beauty and hair products for black women. She was also an early civil rights advocate and financial supporter of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. By the time of her death in 1919, Madame C.J. Walker had built one of the largest black owned manufacturing companies in the world, an international network of over 15,000 Madame Walker agents, beauty schools in three states and a 32-room mansion at Irvington-on-the-Hudson, New York.

Madame’s only child, A’Lelia Walker became President of the Madame C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company of Indiana when her mother died.





PRESENT:
Michelle Obama was born on January 17, 1964 in Chicago, Illinois. After high school, she attended Princeton University, graduating cum laude in 1985, and went on to earn a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1988. Following law school, she worked at a Chicago law firm, where she met her husband, President Barack Obama. In 1993. She currently serves as a board member for the prestigious Chicago Council on Global Affairs. First Lady, Michelle Obama, is the proud mother of two daughters, Malia (born 1998) and Sasha (born 2001).
