Yoga has been practiced for more than 5,000 years. Most classes in the U.S. focus on physical poses and usually include some breathing techniques. Many include some form of meditation as well. Some are designed purely for relaxation while others teach you how to move your body in new ways helping to develop your flexibility, strength and balance. My friend Vernie is taking a "hot yoga" class; performed in hot & humid conditions. Not my thing!
Sadie and Bessie Delany lived to the ages of 109 and 106 years old. Some of their remarkable longevity was attributed to their healthy diets and lifestyles. They both had a daily routine of yoga and prayer; neither smoked or drank either. I don't smoke but must say I do like my glass of Cabernet every now and then.
The experts say for most healthy people yoga is a safe non-aerobic form of exercise but like anything else, it is not without risks. Be sure to consult your healthcare professional before starting any new exercise program.
Blessings,
Jacqueline
