You Can Learn Something New Everyday!

This morning I had a massage appointment (the benefits of I'll share later). In conversation with the massage therapist, she used two words that I'd never heard before. I can't remember now how she used them but I stopped her to get the definations and spellings. I also can't say I have an extensive vocabulary but I love words and appreciate the power of being able to effectively communicate. My two new words are:

Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

Obfuscate - Verb - obfuscated / obfuscating

Transitive verb:
1. a Darken
    b. to make obscure (obfuscate the issue)
2. Confuse (obfuscate the reader)

Intransitive verb:
to be evasive, unclear, or confusing

Here are a couple of examples I think we can all relate to:

  • Politicians keep obfuscating the issues. "There's a lot of that going around!"
  • There explanations only serve to obfuscate and confuse.

Bemirch - Damage the reputation of (someone or something) in the opinion of others.

  • He had besmirched the good name of his family.
Fascinating! Not only have I never heard these two words before but I've never seen them written anywhere either. Thank God you're never to old to learn. Thanks to Rachael, my massage therapist, for helping me increase my vocabulary. I'm not sayin I'll be using these two words on a regular basis but at least I'll know what they mean the next time I hear them!

Blessings,

Jacqueline
