Chicken & turkey breasts are great choices for protein. They're both low in fat once you remove the skin. Bake, broil or grill (no frying) Sorry!
Seafood is another good protein. Ideally it should be fresh and purchased the day you're going to eat it. Some suggestions:
Salmon (Wild caught only)
Fresh Tuna
Halibut
Snapper
Shell Fish - Crab or Lobster (without butter) Again, sorry!!!
There are several theories on how many servings of vegetables we should eat per day. According to Body for Life at lease two of your daily meals should include vegetables: Steaming your vegetables is better than boiling; boiling destroys most of the nutrients. Another suggestion is to try using herbs & spices for seasoning instead of salt, and of course, fresh herbs are best, when possible.
I was talking to my friend Vernie (she teaches Pilate's) and she said a good "rule of thumb" for eating veggies is the 80/20 rule, meaning that 80% of you plate should be vegetables and the other 20% protein & carbs.
As said, there's numerous trains of thought on this topic but I think its safe to say that more is better when it comes to veggies. We should also take portions into serious consideration. More to be said on that subject later. REMEMBER, change your thinking, change your life. Nurture yourself from inside to the skin-side.
